SPLIT BEAM TEE
SPLIT BEAM TEE
  • Splitting a BEAM is to torch or saw cut the long way of the BEAM through the web.  Note that some warping is likely, and often to minimize warping the cut is started and stopped approximate every 5’ then allowed to cool then hand torched to finish

  • For STRUCTURAL SIZE TEE split from WIDE FLANGE the designation system has the letters “WT” preceding the size.  For example a WIDE FLANGE size W8” x 31# BEAM split to a TEE would be designated WT4 X 15.5#.  (The 8” height of the original beam split in half = 4”  & the 31# per foot of the original beam split in half = 15.5#)

  • For STRUCTURAL SIZE TEE split from STANDARD BEAM the designation system has the letters “ST” preceding the size.  For example a STANDARD BEAM size S6” x 12.5# BEAM split to a TEE would be designated ST3 X 6.25#.  (The 6” height of the original beam split in half =  3” & the 12.5# per foot of the original beam split in half = 6.25#)
